This project seeks to determine if certain bacterial agents play a significant role in third trimester abortions in Australian fur seals, in collaboration with Deakin University, Philip Island Nature Parks and Zoos Victoria.

The species has failed to thrive since a ban was established in commercial harvest and it appears that potentially lack of recruitment may be the result of high rates of third trimester abortions.
