It aims to better understand the threat posed by toxic lead (Pb) from shooting activities to Australian wildlife (especially birds of prey) and humans and domestic animals that regularly consume meat of wildlife origin ("game" meat).
This ecotoxicology project was conceived in collaboration with Australian and international colleagues.
Internationally, harmful lead exposure is widely recognised as a threatening process to scavenging birds of prey. It has also been shown to cause harmful health effects in high-risk human populations. Little is known about if, when or where environmental lead causes harm in Australian environments. This project aims to provide baseline data to enable quantification of these threats to Australian species and populations.
