A lack of knowledge or skills, and time have been identified in a 2018 questionnaire by Orr B and Tribe A as the main factors limiting the treatment of wildlife presented to private veterinary practices in Australia.
A questionnaire has been developed by Sarah Martin, final year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne to determine the perceived knowledge and confidence of practising veterinarians located in Victoria in treating wildlife. It will also gauge their enthusiasm for further education in wildlife health and determine what subject areas are of the highest priority.
This research could act as an initial study into the perceptions of Victorian veterinarians about their knowledge and aid in the development of future education. In particular, it could highlight what subject material is perceived as most important and the best delivery method to engage participants.
