Our group is skilled in many techniques, including analytical biochemistry, in vitro pharmacology (particularly pharmacodynamics), cell culture and measurements of cytokines, plus a wide range of other metabolic and inflammatory disease biomarkers.
We are also skilled in performing in vivo measurements of insulin sensitivity in horses and ponies; metabolic responses to feed challenges and long-term diet studies.
Measurement of insulin resistance in horses
Frequently-sampled insulin-modified intravenous glucose tolerance tests in horses and ponies.

The Veterinary Inflammation and Metabolism research group offers frequently-sampled insulin-modified intravenous glucose tolerance tests in horses and ponies.
We are one of the few centres that is experienced in this very sensitive, gold-standard measurement of insulin sensitivity in horses and ponies. This is useful in studies of equine metabolic syndrome and PPID, and interventional studies to evaluate novel therapeutics for these conditions.
